One wonderful October afternoon I met up with Maria and Austeja in Camden Town and had a lovely and fun photo shoot. It was Sunday, so one of the busiest days in Camden, the tourists kept standing in a way and they were constantly taking pictures of us, but it was entertaining for us too.

Now some shots that were purely for fun (and some behind the scenes)
I also have to say that Maria is one of the most cheerful and charming people I had pleasure to meet and I think that's definitely visible in these pictures. :}

Brighton, Diane Arbus and some more

So awhile ago, in autumn, we went to Brighton with uni task, we had to make a psychogeographical map of Brighton for the History of Art and Design. Some pictures and inspiring things from the trip:

World is really small and I continue to get into situations that proves it. While in Brighton, I accidentally met one of my sister's best friends on the pier. She's from Lithuania and just happened to be there in Brighton that morning.

Mia and Sasha study Illustration, so they just drew quick sketches for the map on our way. Too bad I can't draw and couldn't do that..

In the induction week all the photographers went to Tate Modern to see Diane Arbus and other exhibitions there. We had to take pictures during the whole day and later the tutors selected 6 best and gave photography books as prizes.

This is from June. Fifth and the last part of my project "The Dreamers: State of Mind"

It got pretty dark..

It's hard to keep dreaming. To appreciate beauty around you so greatly, that you feel like bursting into the smallest pieces. This last part of the project is what happens when your dreams go terribly wrong, when you're nearly losing it.
The world keeps pushing us, dreamers, away with all the terrible things happening, all the people who bring us down in different ways and tell us that we have to wake up and accept reality as it is: rotten. But I don't believe it. This world, The Nature can be so enchanting. Reality is not rotten. Just some people are. So I'll keep living as I do know - dreaming and creating my own wonders. And yes, maybe I will suffer, because I understand that "All beauty must die" and it will, but that's the path that I would always choose.

And something else I've been thinking about a lot. When most of my photography is "pretty girls in pretty dresses" it drives me into a serious identity crisis. I keep balancing between two completely different sides of me, which you might not always see, because photography is the only way I know how to keep my darkness locked up. Because the stories I dream up might look magical and pretty, but I will never be like that and I'm definitely not naive, quite contrary - often I might seem like a really negative person. And that's the reason I will always stay alone. It's hard, but I know I will make my peace with this in the end. I never thought that I will have a peaceful nice life.

First of all - four photoshoots on the way, so be patient. :}}

These are the pictures from another festival, the last weekend of summer and it actually took place in the same place as Rock Nights that I posted pictures from before. The festival is called Menuo Juodaragis, if translated literally it would be Moon Blackhorn or Month Blackhorn, not even sure which one is the right one (only now I actually thought about it, it can be both ways). It's a festival "of post-folklore, alternative music and contemporary Baltic culture" according to it's website.

I think it was one of the best festivals of this summer and maybe even one of the best ever, because the weather was just perfect, I met so many amazing people, so much happened and it was just.. magical. I even wrote poetry after it (and I haven't written anything but prose in a long time).

This is the fire of the opening ritual/ceremony.

These are the same people and my friends that organize Romuva camp that I always go to. They're probably the main ritual folk ensemble in Lithuania and they organize a lot of Lithuanian feasts and do wedding, baptism ceremonies in the old Baltic way.

People (there were a lot of them) singing and dancing folk songs in three circles.

A LOT of things happened in the festival. This is what's left of the glasses after the night.

These two are my old friends and they are just beautiful people. They are a couple and they create wonderful music together with various weird instruments.

Listen to them if you want to feel a tiny bit of the festival mood.

First one has a really beautiful music video. :} aaah, I just want so much to be in it, on the wooden boat on the lake, dancing and singing around the bonfire...

And this one is just sooo fun (fun begins at 1:00), they're singing it in center of Vilnius, (capital of Lithuania) in the winter night.

Moving out to London

It's hard to believe, but it's been a week since I moved to London. I'm living in university halls and so far I'm just happy (and just a tiny bit homesick..). I met so many lovely and beautiful people here, I think I will have some of the best times of my life here.:}
These pictures were taken during our halls welcome feast. I thought it will be something simple, but when I woke up I saw a huge carousel outside. There were a lot of other attractions, free food, free drinks, ice cream and even a caricaturist. Also I couldn't believe that the weather was this perfect the whole week, it was freezing in Lithuania.

Also, if someone is in London and would like to meet me, go out for some coffee, write me! :}}

On Saturday Yasmin and Courteney wanted to do a project for their fashion course (even though it hasn't even started), so we went around some houses that was meant to be demolished and took some photos.

Sophie liked this so much that she took it to her flat. We even went inside the building when some men said that we can, but it wasn't nice in there (various signs "Danger of Death" and terrible smell ;D).

I don't think that you're going to see anything like this soon, because for now I'm not going to take pictures in weddings and I did these two mainly for practice (and of course special circumstances..)

So this first wedding is actually... my father's. Now I have huge strange family (a stepmother, a stepfather, each has their own children and I have half-brothers too).

While walking in the old town some children from school started clapping for us.

I think that they were the most excited when I told them to go in the middle of the street to take pictures. They kept telling that story to every guest ;D

I just hope they will be very happy for a long time. :}

in one of the last summer weekends we went to my countryside for "Romuva" camp afterparty. It was just breathtakingly foggy and beautiful. We sang folk songs near the bonfire, we played guitars and drums and survived a horror-ish nocturnal attack of mutant hornets.
Travel through the mist with this amazing song "Summer Smoke" by "Cemeteries" (go listen to him, he's not only very talented and for some reason still not known, but is also a very nice person, as he very kindly replied to my comments about his music and he even said my pictures are incredible).

Romuva 2011

In the begining of August I went to Romuva, Baltic religion and culture camp for the fifth time.
It's always the most magical time of the summer, all the old folk songs, brilliant people and atmosphere. I will definitely go back there again next year. :}Adele has an animal scull in her hands. It was raining everyday, but rain was magical too, as in the picture above.

Rock Nights 2011

I've been to "Rock Nights" on August 5-6 and it was so so much fun. The weather was absolutely perfect and I got to see "Guano Apes" and "Pain".
In the picture above it's guys from a latvian band "Wildborn".
The banner below says "Feelings". It was kind of our slogan, we did a parade through all the campsite shouting, dancing with the music.
On the girl's hand below it's written "I want sex". I guess that's why she's so sad.. ;D

everything is going wrong,

this is a post of my summer fun and parties.
my parents and sisters were away for few weeks, so Victoria moved in with me.
these are from a party, it was 7am and we went to a shop to buy some pizza. ;D (yeah, Vika doesn't need pants..) we had an amazing time that night.

The next day Tadas borrowed Vika's robe with piggies and went to his band practice.

it was such a beautiful evening, we went out to the park with Tadas.

we built a huge tent/fort in my living room (as in the movie "The Dreamers") and we slept, listened to music, watched movies there.

This weekend I've been to a metal festival called "Lentpjūvė", I missed metal so it was really nice, I still can't move my neck and I feel like my bones were broken.

"Wulture" (they're my friends) on stage.

I slept only for maybe an hour in the festival and had to drive for 3 hours to get home (normally it would take 2 hours, but I didn't really see the road ;D), so we stopped a few times so that I could rest a little. We did a little picnic then.

The same day we got back home we celebrated Victoria's birthday.

I dreaded this date (2011.07.13) for so long. That was the day I watched the last (this word sounds so terrible when I'm talking about this) Harry Potter film. I can't even begin to describe how much Harry Potter means to me, how it shaped me all my life until now and I really feel that I would be a different person if it never existed. It really influenced my pictures, all that longing for magic.. I can't believe that it's over, the constant waiting, the unspeakable excitement I always felt before new books and movies appeared... I truly believe I will never ever read any book this many times. I will never ever read anything through the night, (until very last words of the last page, because I just couldn't put it away). I will never cry or laugh that hard, I will never feel so close to the characters and love all of them with such passion. And yes, Harry will always be alive and will stay in a very special place inside my heart with all my best childhood experiences, but I can't help it, it makes me feel so depressed. For the first time in my life (and I know that it sounds stupid) I'm not really sure what exciting things are waiting for me in the future. And it's scary. So this is also for you, if you know how I feel..

London, The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs

So I went to London for a few days and sometimes I am amazed by the number of things you can do in such a limited time.

First of all, I saw so many interesting people, it would have been a joy to take pictures of all of them, but, obviously, I couldn't do that, so just one small example above. I wish I knew a person here in Lithuania who would have bright hair like that. These eyebrows are inspiring too.

So now about the most amazing thing. I had only one full day at London, so I didn't even check if any of my favorite bands were performing anywhere near, because I really didn't think that I would have time or that there actually was a good concert. Oh, was I wrong..
We were just chilling near Hyde Park and I was wondering why there were so many people. And then I heard that THE KILLERS are playing there that night and I completely freaked, I just ran to the ticket queue with my sister and while we were buying tickets I heard KAISER CHIEFS and then I just lost it and I ran through mud like crazy (it was pouring the whole evening). It was just Oh my God, I can't believe it (like conveniently said Kaiser Chiefs), because music and seeing my favorite bands live is something I live for. I usually prepare myself for big concerts for months, learn all the lyrics and wait before the doors open to be in the first line, so this was absolutely unreal and unexpected, but we had such an amazing time.:}

My sister and our new friend, who is world's best clarinetist, owns a yacht and is richer than Brandon Flowers (The Killers vocalist), at least according to him. ;D

So many things went wrong that April day... It was Ieva's last day in Lithuania, so we had to do it, even though weather forecast predicted us a huge storm. I had to pick a different, more convenient place if we had to stop and hide. We were quite lucky, as it didn't rain hard, but the wind was incredibly strong and I wanted to shoot with lots of candles... So this is not what I initially planned, we're probably going to give it another try when Ieva comes back.

Two weeks ago at night we spontaneously decided to go to my countryside. Vika, Gytis and I spent there the whole weekend and it was incredibly nice, I missed that place, so many memories.

All of us did some of the make up.

It was really cold, so photoshoot lasted only forty minutes and we didn't normally finish it, but oh, well, it still was incredibly fun. Especially when I started lighting the smoke bombs and the girls acted weird at first, because smoke went right into their faces and they couldn't do all the things I asked at once (behind the scenes coming later, you'll see ;D).

Fashion Infection 2011

I went to the biggest fashion festival in Lithuania "Fashion Infection" back in March and did some backstage shots. I really loved the feeling there, it was a great experience. So many beautiful people!

My old and dear friend Mykolas, if you've followed my work for awhile, you could remember him from some of my photoshoots. :} He walked the catwalk at the show too.

Too bad I didn't make it to the other two days of the festival (on second day I celebrated my birthday and on the third I tried to rehabilitate myself after the party ;D), because I would have better photographs of her.

So I just keep thinking that my photography sometimes doesn't give a right idea about what kind of a person I actually am. Since this is my blog, I thought I will be posting some more personal stuff from the past (and in the future). :}
For those who are not interested in it, sorry, new photos will come soon enough. :}

Some most eventful parties happened during the summer of 2009. On Vika's birthday (she was one of my first models and a best friend) we went to my countryside for 3 days. It was incredibly fun: bonfires, songs, nights and misty dawns, but on the third morning we woke up (though we just went to sleep ;D) from strange strange noises, though we didn't realize what's happening, all of us thought that we were dreaming.
So, yeah, it was the sound of flames licking the wood and roof. and we burned down my sauna. Completely. I haven't been that scared in my whole life, I thought all of my countryside will turn to ashes, but thanks to some nice firemen everything ended quite well.

and it's completely amazing that I even have all the rest of them, because they are from like three years ago, I took them in 2007 (I think) and I had no idea they even exist, I thought I lost it long time ago. When Brigita told me she would get my rolls developed and I gave her this one, I thought this was from this summer, so oh, how surprised I was when she sent me all the pictures and I didn't even understood where they came from. But this is the magic of film photography. Then all the memories came rushing back. I always thought that year 2006 and year 2007 was the best years of my life in some sense, so it's nice to remember that feeling.

On our way to concert of Alina Orlova (click on the link and go listen to her!! she's one of the best Lithuanians we've got, for sure), there was this amazing tree with all these swings. I wish I could fly with them now. The view was wonderful there, sea everywhere you turn. the word on the sand is "cosmos"

I missed film. There are some more "lost" rolls somewhere at Mykolas place, have to get them back. And I also have some more from this summer, but I have to finish the roll first.

I wanted to do a darker version of flower crowns, but it still is a bit too positively dreamy as I was carried away, they were just lovely :}. Planning to come back to this someday for a little shocker.

mykolas, auris, justas tests

So it's been awhile since I took photos of boys. :}I missed taking photos of Mykolas (first picture), he's absolutely great and he was one of my best friends for a long time. All of these are from September, when Mykolas, Aurimas (the one below) and Justas (the forth picture) asked me to do some test shots for them. It was a lot of fun, we spent the whole day together.

And, I just have to mention, that Justas and Aurimas are incredibly talented musicians, they'll soon release their album. Justas plays cello and Aurimas plays guitar.

It was just a test shot before a photo shoot with two of them (expect soon!), but I love how unexpectedly these turned out. It was just one lonely bush near all the houses, but it turned into a fairytale sparkling forest before my eyes.

Sky Ferreira is a singer, her first album is coming out in spring of 2011. I don't really listen to music like hers, but I love her style and appearance sooo much! I discovered her only today and she's just cool. Listen to her in her myspace (or better just watch her videos, because it was the videos that caught my eye). The best thing she has is her amazing amazing hair, can't remember when I saw hair that I liked that much. Maybe I should try wear my hair this way too..
